Lionel Messi let former Inter Miami captain DeAndre Yedlin lift trophy in classy gesture after Leagues Cup win


As they fought out a 1-1 tie with Nashville, Lionel Messi scored his 10th goal in seven games for his new team, forcing a sudden-death penalty shootout.

After Drake Callender stopped Elliot Panicco’s penalty kick, Inter Miami prevailed in the shootout 10-9.

It’s the first championship for the team since it was founded in 2020. Lionel Messi and Yedlin shared the trophy celebration in a tasteful move.

After Yedlin’s departure, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who took over as the captain upon arrival, permitted the American player to receive the trophy.
